Must weigh the dreadful cost

We set sail with hope in heart
Wind at our backs
and plotted chart

For weeks we sailed with time and tide
We set our course
Up for the ride

Then waves grew wild and
Skies turned dark

Tore dreams apart

The sea won’t wait
For ship and crew

As I’ve witnessed this tragedy

All hopes now lost in vain
No one to help us

The dread and fear

As I witnessed the tragedy
My cries of pain

I cried for help, but I knew no one could hear

With dark so deep and the night so long
I felt so weak when I knew I should be strong
Losing hope as I felt my end was near

But fates were kind and I reached the shore
Now I grieve for lost friends that I once cared for
As I witness them sink beneath the waves

In desperation my tears now flow
And in my heart a darkness now is sown
As I remember the souls I couldn’t save

The times we laughed
The times we cheered
