lyrics

I - Stage One
Up we go on a lightning show
Our grip upon the Earth is slipping fast
Memories, eternities quickly fade into the past

All the fleeting loves I thought would never end
All the open wounds I'll never need to mend

My eyes once were blind but now at last can see
How your beauty means so very much to me
As your gravity gives way to set us free

The gravity of Earth now sets us free

Through the clouds, concealing shrouds
For all the sins of Man's atrocities
From a speck of dust the vessels thrust meets escape velocity
As we look ahead we're mindful of the thought
We're taking with us the lessons we were taught
We face the future with lessons we were taught

We're leaving home

All the fears and the hopes of this moment
Come so clearly and bright into view
Will remembrance of those that give meaning to our lives
Be the same for those who remain

Here we are amongst the stars

II - Soul Lanterns
The world that turns below brings solace to my soul
Above a trillion stars glow so silently
The lives of loved ones are passing under me
Knowing that their passing, I will never see

The journey up ahead slides solid into view
A silence falls at the reflection of my crew
A thousand reasons, a thousand hidden fears
As weightlessness prevents the crying of our tears

We know those left behind are thinking of us all
And in the darkness I can almost hear their call

But for none of us another cold and frosty dawn
The laughter and the fun of running through a field of corn

My eyes are clouding at the memory
Their fading love now washes over me
Must look ahead and let the feelings drain from me
I know those left behind still all love me

My thoughts now stray to the thrill that lays in front of me
I am now doing what I always set out to be
In the great unknown
With some close friends at my side
Fills my mind with joy
And fills my heart with brimming pride

III - The Final Burn
All the fears and the hopes of this moment
Come so clearly and bright into view
Will remembrance of those that gave meaning to our lives
Be the same for those who remain

I've made my peace with God
I've got him right behind me
And with a button's prod
Our fate is sealed divinely

And slow but sure as sure
The engines rumble through me
I'm thrust back in my chair
I hope my faith's still with me

Fate hanging over me
Fear gripping hold of me
Feeling the final burn

Senses in overload
Leaving our Mother globe
Feeling that final burn

IV - Vespers End
As our journey takes us swiftly to its end
The memories come of those
I'll never see again
And at this fateful hour
My soul feeds on the thought
My heart beats now with love
Of a different sort

My clouding eyes take a final glimpse behind
Our pale blue planet
Recedes inside our minds
The lives and loves of those
now fade into the night
As we now embark upon this fateful flight

Whatever will be, will be
A fading memory or
A place in history
We will still be children of that distant sun

Children of that distant sun

Of that distant sun
