Village Life

from A Deserter's Tale by The Id

/

about

Excited childrens' laughter fills the air as Deserter dangles his toes in the icy cold water of the stream. The summer sun scorches the 14 year-old's back as a shadow falls across him.

He looks up to see a vision of beauty, a pretty young girl that makes his heart skip a beat. In that skipped beat he knows she is the one. Her name is Grace and he feels as if he has known her all his life. They talk, they laugh, they dream. He tells her he has hopes for the future but at this moment in time they are clouded, he can't quite see exactly what lays ahead.

The days and weeks pass and they become inseparable. Young love is blossoming.

However dark clouds are looming on the horizon as fate conjures events that will set the World plummeting into chaos. The shooting of Archduke Franz Ferdinand in Sarajevo sends Europe into a tailspin, a house of cards falls as one country after another fulfils treaties and aligns itself on either side of a deep, dark crevasse.

lyrics

Looking back
All those memories
We made our way
To the stream that day

Fun and dreams
Blindly stumbling
Lost for words
As my eyes gazed upon her face
For the very first time

Looking back
On yesterday
We thought we'd be together
Till we're old and grey

But soon the fates tore us apart
Whatever happens you're still in my heart
Little did we know how things would change

Clouds were gathering
Clouds were gathering

Blissful unawareness
Immune to the world's unfairness
Back then we couldn't care less
If only we knew of the horrors to come

I couldn't see what lay ahead of me

I can't see what's ahead of me
My destiny's unknown (Until fade)
